Rental company does “Heavy Lifting” in Key WestFamily run business is more than equipment and party rentals

KEY WEST, FL — Located at the Southernmost Point of the continental United States is an equipment and party rental place like no other. Four Star Rentals began with Owner Bill Lemon, renting tools to friends in the 1980s before there were any rental stores on the island. When much of Key West was in disrepair he started lending tools as a favor, then equipment rentals became in demand and there needed to be more variety, and Four Star Rentals was born. Their footprint on Key West goes much beyond renting equipment.

“We have rented equipment for the 1992 film CrissCross with Goldie Hawn and in the film True Lies, Arnold Schwarzenegger ducks behind one of our cement mixers,” said Erik Lemon, second generation owner/operator of Four Star Rentals. “We provided tents, tables and chairs to many of the celebrities on those movies and throughout the years. We rent equipment to almost any event that comes to Key West. Look for our equipment on the new Discovery show Garage Rehab.”

From humble beginnings to working with some of the biggest celebrities in the world, the 30 plus years the business has been in operation has been part of many changes in Key West. Most recently, their equipment was used to construct the Key West amphitheater. On the party rental side of the business, tents and chairs were rented for the Key West Powerboat Races https://superboat.com/key-west-2018 and will be used in next week’s Key West Film Festival. https://kwfilmfest.com/

Four Star Rentals is heavily involved in community outreach and non-profits and really believes in giving back which is why we wanted to highlight them in South Florida Business Review. After Hurricane Michael struck Mexico Beach the rental company negotiated with U-Haul to give a truck to volunteers in Key West bringing supplies. Berkshire Hathaway Realtor Derek Epperly spearheaded the mission and was pleased to have the help of Four Star Rentals.

“Four Star Rentals was there to help. We brought 22,000 pounds of supplies including everything from baby formula to cleaning supplies. It was all gone in an hour after unloading it,” Epperly said. “We also had help from United Methodist Church and Will Langley of Berkshire Hathaway.”

The rental company gives discounts to multiple non-profits in town and is particularly fond of the Sister Season Fund. A non-profit in town that helps hundreds of Key West workers and families desperately in need of rental and utility assistance.

“We believe in their mission to help people in the community that need assistance after a catastrophe,” Erik said.
